DAKAR RALLY, HISTORY

The Dakar Rally is a competition held every year during the first weeks of January. It's considered to be one of the toughest rallies in the world. Until 2008, the participants started in a European city and the finish line was in Dakar, Senegal.
For many years, the rally started in Paris but since 1995 the starting city has alternated between various European cities (Barcelona, Lisbon), even though the real competition doesn't start until the participants get into Africa. Likewise, the finish line has also been changing, in 1992 it was in Cape Town. In 2000 and 2003, the Rally finished in Cairo and Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. The rally was moved to the South American countries of Argentina and Chile in 2009 after being cancelled because of terrorist threats in 2008. The upcoming 2010 edition will be held in South America once again.

About Us

JVO RACING is a company that provides assistance for motor sports competitions specializing in the innovation and creation of a range of bespoke and original kits for adapting stock enduro motorcycles for Off-Road Raids.

Its founder, Jorge Velayos O´Felan, has been involved in the activity for 20 years and he's worked with a number of riders including; Carlos Mas, Fernando Gil, Rafa Ciscar, José Manuel Pellicer, Marcelo Miti, Joao Rosa, Marc Guasch, and others. He also collaborated with Yamaha Motor Spain on the Yamaha TTR project as a participant and providing assistance in Africa, “Dakar 2001”.

In 2006/7 he began working on a project with the navigation and instrumentation of the Yamaha WR 450 applying more technology to it than other the kits on the market at that time and so far there's been 100% reliability. In October, 2007 we contacted Yamaha Motor Spain to let them know about our intentions to apply our technology to the new Yamaha WR 450 (aluminium frame) and build a kit that could be produced in series with the idea of building a motorcycle that would be built practically from scratch and adapted to this kind of competition. Yamaha Motor Spain decided to participate in the project.

The project is now finished and after participating in nearly all the competitions around the world in 2008 and Dakar in 2009 its reliability and competitiveness have been proven.

The bike has turned out to be quite competitive and it's 3 years ahead of anything else manufactured up to now in terms of detailing. For example; weight distribution, plastic tanks, rear mounted tank, self supported tail, Kevlar/Carbon fibre construction, temperature fans, oil pressure switch, digital temperature indicator and in particular an aerodynamic study and weight distribution that makes gives as good handling as the original enduro motorcycle and it's also the lightest motorcycle, weighing only 14 kg more than the original.

If you'd like to meet us or get in touch about participating in an event you can do so through this web site. Likewise, you can also purchase some of the products we manufacture or contact us to look over any engineering or if you just want some advice or maintenance done on your off-road bike because we also do specialized shop work.
